Odoo

How our ERP Solution increased The management efficiency of a Fortune 500 company!

The client had several tools to manage their data and workflows, it being a large company worldwide. This had become cumbersome, inefficient and prone to errors as everything had to be synced manually in different systems by human users.

With Odoo, we were able to combine their data of Customer & Vendor records, Inventory, BoMs, etc. in one place so that they can execute processes like sale orders, manufacturing orders, shipments, invoices, serial number generation, user ID and password generation, etc. from one single software.

They can now generate complicated reports with one click which was not possible earlier due to data spread across different tools/software.

Challenges:

The customer was facing the following issues before they started using Odoo:

  • Using different software for managing their different business requirements separately. For example, for sales of different software, for manufacturing different software. Some of the operations were being captured through Excel sheets.
  • The business operations were unmanageable and inaccurate due to no sync among the different software.
  • Miscommunication between different departments as data sharing was difficult.
  • It was time-consuming and tedious to check if there were any errors.

The solution:

We, Nouveau Labs, have provided them with an ERP solution called “Odoo”. We implemented Sales, Purchase, Manufacturing, Inventory and Accounting modules using this software.

We have done customization of standard Odoo workflows as per their needs as well as implemented several modules from scratch. We have set up proper communication channels like emails, discuss channels, chats, etc. in Odoo instances.

We also provided them the required training to their employees who were going to use the system.

Product information:

Odoo is a Belgian suite of business management software tools including, for example, CRM, e- commerce, billing, accounting, manufacturing, warehouse, project management, and inventory management.

Odoo’s extensible architecture allows many freelancers and organizations to develop Odoo Apps or Modules and place them in the marketplace for sale or to be downloaded for free. The main Odoo components are the framework, about 30 core applications (also called official modules), and thousands of community modules.

Odoo has two versions – Community & Enterprise. The Community version is a libre software, licensed under the GNU LGPLv3. The Enterprise version has proprietary extra features and services. The source code for the framework and core ERP modules is curated by the Belgium-based Odoo S.A. Odoo is available for both on-premises and ready-to-use SaaS environments. The source code for the Open-Object framework and the core ERP modules are provided by Belgium-based Odoo S.A.

Results:

The client has been actively using Odoo for over 5 years. We have done a lot of customization on top of standard Odoo modules as per their specific requirements. These modules are mainly customized for sales, manufacturing, PLM, accounting, inventory and purchase. Over 13 modules have been customized and some have been developed from the scratch for them.

These modifications have helped them run their business smoothly. Odoo has reduced their operation time significantly being the one and only tool for maintaining all the required data and processes. They are able to generate some complicated reports in Odoo which can combine records using SQL queries and display them in UI. It also became possible to extract these reports in an Excel sheet or PDF file.

Not only we have provided a customized solution but also implemented automated tools that can generate serial numbers in their required formats with a click of a button. They are able to generate customized serial numbers from their manufacturing orders which are stored in the database as well as extracted in an Excel sheet in the form of an attachment to the specific manufacturing order.

The major customization was done for the delivery order. They have distribution centres (DC) that prepare an Excel sheet with data of actual delivery orders. We were given a list of rules that must match with each column in that sheet and verify whether the ship report is correct or not. The user must upload the Excel sheet on a concerned delivery order in Odoo and our customized algorithm will verify and prepare a report on whether the uploaded Excel sheet is successfully passed or failed. This specific automation has worked wonders for the customer.

Apart from this, we are also providing them with database management, VM instance maintenance (AWS instances), upgrades, and update of Odoo versions as soon as the new version is released.

The customer is not only satisfied but also happy with our services. We continue to work with them on the new requirements and support them once the development is over.
